The Concept of Marketing
The concept of marketing is the idea that a company can build a relationship with a customer by focusing on their wants and needs. The company should strive to provide these desires by offering products or services that will satisfy these needs. In other words, the company should offer value over time. This approach has benefited businesses and is increasingly popular among organizations.
A marketing concept consists of three components. First, it focuses on consumer needs. Secondly, it focuses on satisfying these needs. Thirdly, it aims to meet the consumer’s expectations. For example, when a consumer buys coffee, he or she expects a product that will satisfy his or her needs. A coffee seller who fails to meet these expectations is failing to satisfy the customer.
Another important component of a marketing strategy is product quality. In general, consumers prefer products with high performance and features, so companies that focus on product quality should constantly strive to improve their product features. However, companies should be careful not to focus solely on the product – too much focus on the product can result in failure. For example, a biscuit manufacturer might develop a brand of biscuits that is better than the competition but is too expensive.
The concept of marketing is based on the idea that firms should analyze the needs of their customers and meet them better than competitors. This enables firms to respond quickly to market changes, and to quickly correct product shortcomings. Companies that subscribe to this philosophy also place more emphasis on research, planning, and innovation. Using reliable scientific data, they can make more informed decisions and become more profitable.
Another fundamental concept of marketing is selling. This concept assumes that consumers will not buy enough of an enterprise’s product unless they are aggressively promoted. Unless this assumption is incorrect, then the enterprise must increase its sales and promotional efforts in order to compete with other companies. This is referred to as hard selling.
Mass production is a concept of marketing that helps create products with low prices. This technique helped Henry Ford create mass-produced cars. Prior to that, cars were built by hand, which took months. However, Henry Ford saw that people needed cars and began mass-producing them. Although Ford is often credited with developing mass-production techniques, the concept of mass production had been around for several centuries. Ford learned about mass production after visiting a slaughterhouse and discovered that he had an opportunity to create a cheap product.
While some companies follow the demand-supply concept, most businesses do not. Success in a business depends on the needs of the customer and the needs of the people involved. A business that focuses on the needs of its customers and society is said to be sustainable. Those who practice this philosophy believe that business is a vital part of society. By promoting this philosophy, companies seek to eliminate poverty, illiteracy, and explosive population growth.
